Rehabilitation & Pain Management Centre
Rehabilitation therapies gently assist the body to heal and slow the degenerative processes down.
Common conditions where rehabilitation can impact recovery and quality of life are:
Hip and elbow dysplasia
Cruciate ligament disease
Patella luxation
Osteoarthritis
Fracture repair
Back pain
Spinal injury or surgery
Degenerative myelopathy
Muscle tears and strains
Weight management
Geriatric health programs
Assessment by a Veterinarian
Our patients are fully assessed by the veterinarian prior to and regularly during their rehabilitation program
Pain medication usage is reassessed and the protocols are adjusted according to the individual patients’ response to therapy. In patients where the use of certain pain medication is contraindicated rehabilitation therapies can provide an alternative method of pain management.

Rehabilitation therapies and modalities used
Massage
Laser therapy
Underwater treadmill
Massage assists with the release of muscle tension, reduces pain and promotes normal muscle function. It increases blood flow and lymphatic drainage assisting recumbent patients. It can help relieve the discomfort of osteoarthritis and other musculo-skeletal conditions.
Laser therapy uses light energy to stimulate cells to heal at a faster rate and in a more organised manner resulting in improved tissue strength. It has anti-inflammatory effects and assists with pain management.
Hydrotherapy – Our Aquatread Underwater Treadmill provides a controlled environment for rehabilitation and exercise. The properties of water decrease joint loading, decrease joint stiffness, reduce tissue swelling and build muscle mass. Patients exercise more comfortably and confidently as the buoyancy of water decreases the load on painful joints. Water also increases muscle support to joints, thus assisting with function and the re-learning of correct posture and gait. Exercise in water has multiple benefits that will be used to improve and maintain health and quality life in our young, middle-aged and geriatric pets.
